Air Macau Adds More Bangkok Flights in January
Air Macau will add three flights per week between Macau and Bangkok, Thailand during January. Beginning January 22, 2008 the new services will take off from Macau at 11.25am on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday and leave Bangkok at 2.20pm on the the same days.
The airline is currently running a daily service to the Thai capital, however the increasing popularity of Macau as a destination has prompted the airline to add the additional services. The number of tourists visiting from Thailand more than doubled in the first eleven months of last year, to until 118,510 from 77,198 in 2006.
Air Macau also hopes the new flights will pick up tourists from further afield as well. Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport is a hub for South East Asian air traffic and in the first nine months of last year pulled in 2.1 million Europeans and 3.5 million Japanese, according to the airport's website.
"Many international travellers can fly directly to Bangkok and then take our service to Macau," a spokesperson from the company said.
The existing service arrives daily from Bangkok after midnight, leading to many complaints from Thai passengers.
Air Macau is offering an introductory rate of 1,688 patacas plus tax for two return tickets to Bangkok for flights from January 22. Additional details can be gained from most travel agents.
With an increase of charter traffic from Japan over the Christmas season the airline may also be looking to increase the fixed service to the country. Air Macau operates three services a week to Osaka, Japan.
